2012 Chevy Equinox Not Equipped With MyLink, Leads to Angry Customers
According to GM's offical press release, announced in February of 2011, the Chevy Equinox was slated to come equipped with the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system. This was expected to happen this fall, with other vehicles being accomodated along the way as well. Consumers, however, have been crying foul, stating that their pre-ordered Chevy Equinoxes are not coming equipped with the system, and that upgrading to MyLink is not being offered as an option.
According to consumers, they fully expected their 2012 Chevy Equinox (and the Volt as well) to arrive with the system installed. Even more misleading is the fact that the Equinox still comes with a touch screen, its just that many features like Bluetooth Audio Streaming, Pandora, and Stitcher apps were all noticeably absent from the system. After touching base with GM's communication team, the popular blog GM Authority has learned that the 2012 Chevy Equinoxes in production DO NOT include MyLink at all. Worse still, upgrading to MyLink won't be an option in the future, since they use completely different hardware systems than newer units. According to GM, MyLink will come equipped on the Equinox starting in December. Ouch.
The question now is whether GM will take action to resolve the issue for now-disgruntled owners who paid for their vehicles fully expecting these features to be installed. Retrofitting the vhicles could be exceedingly expensive, but that could be enough of a problem to turn consumers away from buying another GM vehicle when the time comes to get a new car again.
