Recall Notice: 2012 Chevy Equinox
It appears that GM is recalling the Chevy Equinox along with the GMC Terrain crossiver SUVs from the 2012 model year. According to the automaker, the monitoring systems for tire pressure aren't up to federal standards. If you're not sure if this affects your Equinox, the recall affects exactly 33,964 Equinoxes and Terrains that were built from July 18 through Septemmber 6th.
Your car's build date cam be found on a sticker that's located inside the driver-side door jambs. The tire monitoring system is an important part of the vehicle as it displays a pressure warning light when the pressure in a tire falls 25% below the recommended cold tire pressure. In the case of recalled Equinoxes, the warning won't illuminate unless the tire pressure falls more than 25%. Underinflated tires can cause a number of problems, including a blowout and possible crashes. At best, it wears out your tires prematurely and causes poor handling and drecreased fuel economy.
The recall will begin this month, and GM dealers are happy to update the control module without incurring any charges. Affected Equinox owners are welcome to contact GM at 800-630-2438.
