Chevy Equinox Posts Best Sales Month Ever

Despite concerns that demand for the populat SUV was starting to wane, the fuel-sipping Chevy Equinox sales jumped a staggering 79 percent in December. This equated to 22,764 total sales, or the best month the model has ever had. Overall Equinox sales have climbed more than 60 percent for three months in a row. This is partially fueled by an increased production from the Oshawa Assembly which recently began shipping more models to dealers in the United States.

Chevrolet has had to increase their production by three times since 2009 in order to meet increasing demand for the popular crossover. A plant in Ingersoll, Ontario is currently running at full capacity, and production originally began at the Oshawa Plant in September 2010.

` Even with new production amounts, demand for the Equinox has held steady, and it remains one of the fastest-selling crossover SUVs on the market. The 2.4L Ecotec engine comes with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the EPA estiamted 32 MPG highway outclasses even the Ford Escape's Hybrid model. Rear Legroom has also been a popular feature in the Equinox and it offers moer than most of the competitors in the sector.

"The Chevrolet Equinox continues to be one of the fastest-selling vehicles in one of the fastest-growing vehicle segments," said Alan Batey vice president, Chevrolet Sales and Service. "The added Equinox production has proved to be a creative way to quickly meet customer demand, and is clearly helping Chevrolet attract sales we might not have otherwise."
