The Next-Gen Chevy Equinox: Will It be Smaller?
Rumors have been swirling around the next generation of America's favorite crossover SUV the Chevy Equinox. According to sources inside GM, the Equinox may be changed to a smaller model. Other design changes are expcted as well.
The new model would weigh in 300 to 400 pounds lighter than the current Equinox model, raising new questions about improved fuel efficiency in exchange for smaller stature. GM did not confirm the report just yet, but the move could make sense in a lot of ways. Higher gas prices and continuing economic hardship has driven consumers to smaller vehicles and more fuel effecient alternatives. A sleeker Chevy Equinox would undoubtedly use less fuel and could catch on with even more consumers than it already does.
Those worried about cargo space shouldn't begin to fret, as downsizing the Equinox doesn't automatically mean less cargo room. Since the model is already fairly long and rides on a longer wheel base, it gives GM's engineers some wiggle room in how the they design the next generation.
